MIART 2002
LA NOSTRA PRIMA INCURSIONE
L'idea era nell'aria da tempo, anzi, d'idee ce n'erano anche troppe! La possibilità di iniziare il nostro percorso proprio dal MiArt invece, ci era apparsa come una mistica visione proprio all'alba dell'evento, quando ormai mancavano solo undici, brevi, giorni all'inaugurazione. Ci siamo detti: riusciremo a realizzare una scultura e a fare tutti i necessari preparativi in soli undici giorni? Non ci siamo neanche dati una risposta, il tempo era poco e non potevamo sprecarlo in domande pleonastiche!
Cosa è dunque successo il pomeriggio del 2 Maggio all'inaugurazione del MiArt? Verso le cinque e mezza, quando l'ambiente iniziava a scaldarsi ed a popolarsi di curiosi e addetti ai lavori, tra lo stupore dei più o meno prestigiosi invitati all'inaugurazione del MiArt, abbiamo sistemato la nostra scultura, una donna realistica realizzata da Andros, con tanto di cordoncino e finta targhetta identificativa (che recitava: "Art Opening" - Courtesy of Unexpected Gallery, New York), proprio di fronte all'ingresso della Fiera, per poi entrare e mescolarci agli altri invitati mentre un operatore riprendeva le reazioni degli astanti.
Il tutto è avvenuto davanti a decine di persone, ma non si può dire che sia avvenuto alla luce del sole, dal momento che le condizioni metereologiche erano del tutto sfavorevoli; un forte vento minacciava di far volare la scultura (realizzata in poliuretano e quindi leggerissima), tanto da costringerci a sistemarla in un posto diverso da quello scelto nei sopralluoghi dei giorni precedenti, per poterla così ancorare saldamente e permetterle di restare in loco il più a lungo possibile. Come se non bastasse, anche una fastidiosa pioggia ha cominciato ad accanirsi su di noi e sulla scultura, che in ogni modo ha resistito perfettamente a queste dure prove (certo, ne è uscita leggermente spettinata, ma tant'è...). |

Nonostante tutto fosse contro di noi, la cosa è riuscita in pieno e le sensazioni che ne abbiamo tratto sono molte e in buona parte positive. La gente era divertita e neanche gli addetti alla sorveglianza hanno ritenuto di doversi attivare per eliminare "l'intruso". Molte persone si sono fermate davanti all'opera prima di entrare al MiArt ed altre l'hanno notata solo uscendo. Alcune persone poi, erano fermamente convinte che si trattasse di una donna vera e non di una scultura, tanto che una giornalista si è persino detta preoccupata per la sua salute, giacché noi l'avevamo lasciata in balia del cattivo tempo senza neanche un ombrello!
Notevole anche il fatto che molte persone, pur passando a pochi centimetri dalla scultura, non l'abbiano per niente notata! Cosa che fa molto riflettere, visto che si trattava di persone dirette proprio al MiArt, e quindi, presumibilmente, interessate all'arte. È davvero curioso notare come riusciamo ad essere distratti e come siamo portati a vedere le cose solo quando si trovano nel posto in cui ci aspettiamo di vederle; quelle persone erano uscite da casa con l'intento di andare a vedere quadri e sculture, eppure non si sono rese conto di essere passate proprio davanti ad una scultura, senza riconoscerla! Come vedete, gli spunti che si possono trarre da un'esperienza del genere sono davvero tanti ed è anche per questo motivo che questa prima, quasi improvvisata, esibizione inattesa è da ritenersi un successo, del quale faremo tesoro per le prossime, ben più succulente, incursioni artistiche cittadine. MIART 2002
OUR FIRST RAID
The idea had been in the air for a long time, in fact, we had too many ideas! The possibility to start our journey from the MiArt, came through to us as a mystical vision at the dawn of the event, with only eleven short days between us and the opening of the MiArt.
We asked to ourselves: will we be able to realize a sculpture and all the necessary preparation work in just eleven days? We didn't give ourselves an answer, the time was short and we could not waste it in pleonastic questions!
So, what happened in the afternoon of May 2 at the opening of the MiArt? It was 5.30 p.m., when the setting began to warm up and become populated by art lovers and experts.
we placed our sculpture, a realistic woman realized by Andros, crouched in front of the entrance of the Fair with a cordon and a plaque with the inscription: Art Opening - Courtesy of Unexpected Gallery, New York. The amazement of the most prestigious guests of the MiArt was captured. We then mixed with the other guests while a cameraman was shooting the reactions of the bystanders.
Everything happened in front of dozens of people, but we cannot say that it was under the sun, because the meteorological conditions were totally unfavorable; a strong wind threatened to make the sculpture fly away (it was realized in polyurethane, a very light material), forcing us to locate it differently from the original selected place, so that we could anchor it firmly. To make it worst, an annoying pitiless rain started fall on us and on the sculpture, that withstood these hard tests perfectly (it was just a little ruffled...). |

Though everything worked against us, the raid proved to be a total success and we drew a lot of feelings, mostly positive. People had a good time and even the Fair watchmen didn't try to eliminate the "intruder". A lot of people have stopped in front of the work before entering the MiArt and others noticed her on their way out. Some people were firmly convinced that the sculpure was a real woman, to the point that a journalist said she was worried for that lady's health: we had left her under the rain without an umbrella!
Notable it is also the fact that a lot of people, passing just few inches from the sculpture, did not notice it! This makes reflect, considering that those people were going to the MiArt and should have therefore been interested in art. It's strange to notice how we can be inattentive, and how we see things only when they are where we suppose they should be.
Those people had gone out with the intent to see paintings and sculptures, and yet have not realized to have passed by a sculpture, without recognizing it as such! The hints that can be drawn from this experience are many, and that's why this first, almost improvised, unexpected exhibition is to be considered a success, that we will treasure for the next, more juicy, artistic city raids.
